Welcome to the team Nephi!

We are really proud to call this intelligent and driven young man and proud feminist Tochukwu Nephi Awugelenu our new colleague! Nephi is joining us from Nigeria as our Operations Associate and helping coordinate our teams! He is working to help the ACT team achieve our goal of improving humanity while coordinating with our teams across continents and multiple time zones. Here’s our interview with Nephi where you can learn more him:

Meet Nephi

Tochukwu Nephi Awugelenu is a Civil Engineer, specialising in process and structural engineering. He lives in Lagos Nigeria and is passionate about learning. As the coach of his college football team, he loves working in teams and people. Nephi is interested in the impact technology can have in tackling social justice and other pressing issues. He is an operations associate at Spring ACT, working to help the team reach our vision of tackling global injustices one technology at a time.

Can you share with us some insight into your role as Operations Associate?

As an operation associate helping the team be more cohesive, carrying out administrative tasks and achieving both short and long term goals is a real delight for me. Coordinating the teams working in different time zones regularly helps me appreciate the power of technology and the importance of diversity.
One of the most memorable moments during the job was when we had a flash mob for Clarina ushering her into the next phase of her life as she was leaving us to join UN Women. It was really fun especially because we are all so far away from each other but can still find ways to have fun and not always work.

What fascinates you about civil engineering, football, and operations?

I have always loved engineering and development as a child. The striking similarities between civil engineering, soccer and coordination for me is the importance of teamwork, finding equilibrium where every member has a role to play and each role is needed for the team to be progressive and functional. This helps me want to do my own share to make sure the team achieves its goal.

How do you see the future of technology impacting social activism?

We are experiencing unprecedented change in the way we live our lives. Technology seems to be playing a pivotal role in every aspect. It is expedient to see that technology impacts social activism as it has helped humans in several other aspects to make our life easier. As we get more connected with people around the world I expect to see people concerned about issues outside their immediate environment and use technology to try to solve social injustices all around the world.

What was one of the most exciting or inspiring moments in your life so far?

Being part of the Spring ACT team is definitely among one of the most exciting and inspiring moments of my life, helping me envision the world from a different perspective, and appreciate team effort more. Personally improve myself and help me to consciously change some aspect of myself that otherwise would have held on to certain notions. Clarina’s birthday

What’s your dream job?

I always want to help improve the quality of human life. Encouraging peace and development. It’s amazing and very satisfying that we are doing that Spring ACT (you could say I am already living it). Anything that I am doing has to align with helping humans be better. That’s my dream: figure out how things work.

How do you sum up your journey with Spring ACT?

I found Spring ACT on LinkedIn when I was looking to volunteer for something, anything that will help humans and the earth. I wanted to join a team proactively doing good. I like how the team really respects each other. Promoting care, love and personal development of each person. It’s almost like we are in our little perfect bubble, Our director Rhiana Spring is showing us that: despite all that is going on in the world, we have to know that we can create the type of environment we want where genuine love and care can still exist amongst ourselves. What inspires me to do better is the effort every team member puts into the work they do. To not let the team down is always at the back of my mind because I know everyone is trying hard to make sure we achieve our goals.

I see Spring ACT in the future having more outreach to people. Where the tools we are developing to help people, reach does it is intended to all around the world. Also I see Spring ACT developing more mind blowing tools that will tackle more issues in our society and help the lives of many others be better!

What would you love to happen now with Spring ACT?

I am very eager for the tools we are developing to get out there more as I am certain a lot of people would find it very important. It could save lives. I am in a rush to see that these tools are being used more frequently, even causing change in people, cultures. Though we are experiencing it already, I am eager to see more of it. As I know there are people in vulnerable situations now that would love to use these tools.
