For SRF radio listeners in Switzerland, the week got off to a very ACT-filled start! Our founder Rhiana Spring had the pleasure of presenting “Sophia” on national radio SRF 2 (in German). If you missed it, don’t worry, it’s available online and you can read the corresponding article on SRF’s front page: www.srf.ch/kultur/gesellschaft-religion/nothilfe-per-whatsapp-chatbot-sophia-unterstuetzt-opfer-von-haeuslicher-gewalt.

Sophia is the world’s first messaging chatbot available 24/7 to anyone suffering from domestic violence who needs assistance. Regardless of location, connecting with Sophia only requires a smartphone, computer, or tablet with internet access. She is designed to be a trustworthy and guiding friend of women and men in abusive relationships in three key way (GAL): Gather potential evidence. Assess your rights. Learn your options.During the show, Rhiana explains how easy it is to chat to Sophia:

“The only thing you need to do is open up your already existing messaging app like Whatsapp, Telegram, or Signal, look for “Sophia Chatbot” and start chatting. It’s as easy as chatting to a friend.”We would like to express our gratitude to the wonderful SRF journalists Susanne Schmugge for giving Sophia this platform and  Mara Schwab for her advocacy. Such media coverage will hopefully allow us to not only reach interested listeners but also connect with local domestic violence organisations in Switzerland. Our aim is to offer Sophia’s services to assist domestic violence shelters in their important work.
